Interstate 405 (abbreviated I-405) in Oregon is a short loop route, also known as the Stadium Freeway, which is Highway 61. I-405 connects downtown Portland west of the Willamette River to Interstate 5, and travels only through the city of Portland. It opened to traffic on February 251969.
On its northern end, I-405 crosses the Willamette River on the Fremont Bridge. See Interstate 5.
Interstate 405 is concurrent with U.S. Highway 30 from Exit 4 (Interstate 5) to Exit 3 (NW Industrial District). It intersects with U.S. Highway 26 at Exit 1D.
The freeway was completed in 1973 when the Fremont Bridge opened, completing the loop and linking I-405 to I-5 in North Portland.
At the western end of the Fremont Bridge is a wye interchange with US 30; this interchange was originally intended for the canceled I-505. At the eastern end of the bridge lies a partially completed stack interchange with Interstate 5; the cancelled Rose City Freeway was to be a continuation of I-405 which served Portland International Airport and northeast Portland. A small stub portion of the Rose City Freeway was built in order to provide access between the bridge and Emanuel Hospital.
[edit] Exit list
The entire route is in Portland, Multnomah County.
