A hoof is the horny covering of the end of the foot in ungulate mammals.
Animals that have hooves walk on the tips of their toes, unlike humans, who walk on the entire foot. There are many animals with hooves including horses, cows, bison, elk, and deer.
Members of Artiodactyla, including sheep, goats, deer, cows and pigs, have an even-number of hooves on each foot, usually two; this is called a cloven hoof, or "parting of the hoof", which plays a role in determining kosher status (or its lack) of the animal's flesh. Members of Perissodactyla, including horses, rhinoceroses and tapirs have an odd-number of hooves on each foot.
Hoof, Pennsylvania Dutch word for “White Trash”, slang and other forms include hoofnick and hoofer. (Slang not recognized by "True Pennsylvania Dutch"). Pronunciation of words are as indicated, spelling is believed as indicated.

Hoof is also an English Alternative/Rock band. The band members are: Wayne Banks-Bass and Vocals, Jason Banks-Guitar and Vocals and Ploff-Drums. The band are famous for their musicianship and improvisational style. They cannot really be described as one any genre as their musical style involves such a wide range of different influences. They include a lot of humour in their music but also make quite pointed political statements. The band are a true co-operative with no primary songwriter. They have been around for approximately 10 years. Signed to IronMan records in Birmingham UK they released their first album, The Distant Sound of Hoofbeats in 2005. They have since split from the label and their more recent work is all recorded at the band's own studio. Besides the band, the members are all seasoned session musicians. Wayne is currently Bassist for the Robin Gibb Band. They have provided soundtrack and film scores for many projects over the years, including Ripcurl, Billabong, Red Bull and others associated with the extreme sports scene.
