Sheikh Hamad ibn Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani (born 1959) is a member of the royal family of Qatar and the current Prime Minister of Qatar. He played an important role in the overthrow of the former emir in 1995 and is close to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the new emir since that year. He has been the foreign minister of that country since 1992. He is a cousin of the current emir and his father and predecessor, who appointed him, and he was retained when the current emir came to power in a coup in 1995. On April 3, 2007, he was appointed prime minister following the resignation of Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, while continuing to serve as foreign minister.[1] He has been reported to have strong connections with the US government, especially Vice-President Dick Cheney and a difficult relationship with Sheikha Moza, the emir's influential second wife. He is the second wealthiest man in Qatar and has stakes in many strong businesses (Qatar Airways, car sales, banks...).
