GRΣΣK (or Greek) is an American teen drama television series that runs on the ABC Family network. The show follows the story of Rusty, a college freshman attending the fictional Cyprus-Rhodes University, who longs to leave behind his reputation as a high school geek by joining a fraternity, while sister Casey hopes for little interference with her enjoyment of Greek life. Most of the characters belong to either the fictional fraternities Kappa Tau Gamma (ΚΤΓ) and Omega Chi Delta (ΩΧΔ), or the fictional sorority Zeta Beta Zeta (ΖΒΖ).

Upon the conclusion of the original ten episodes, it was announced that Greek has been renewed for a second season and will return to television in early 2008. On December 21, 2007, Disney and Buena Vista Entertainment announced the release of the first season of the series, Chapter One, on DVD. The DVD will include all 10 episodes, plus other extras including deleted scenes. [1]

[edit] Synopsis

Rusty Cartwright (Jacob Zachar) is a freshman in college, attending Cyprus-Rhodes University alongside big sister Casey (Spencer Grammer). Originally, no one even knew about Rusty until he arrived. Casey insisted that he remain low-profile, in hopes that he won't ruin her chances to be elected president of the Zeta Beta Zeta sorority. In an effort to make nice with the family, Casey's boyfriend, Evan (Jake McDorman), offers Rusty a spot in the Omega Chi Delta fraternity, which he declines after finding Evan cheating on Casey with Rebecca Logan (Dilshad Vadsaria), the Senator's daughter who was the sorority's main target during rush. In turn, Rusty accepts an offer from Cappie (Scott Foster), Casey's ex-boyfriend and the current president of Kappa Tau Gamma, the black sheep of the Greek system.

[edit] Name of the show

The Greek letter "Sigma" is not the equivalent of the English/Latin letter "E."
ABC advertises the name of the show with the Greek letter Sigma to spell the title GRΣΣK (since Sigma resembles an E in the Latin alphabet) instead of Epsilon, which is much the same in appearance and function as E. Taken literally, the name of the show is actually GRSSK, since Sigma is the Greek letter equivalent of the Latin S. The name of the show would have to be spelled either GREEK or ΓΡEEK to be correct in English or Greek, respectively.
