In 2007 Johns Hopkins University referred to Furr as a "dropout factory" [1].
[edit] Neighborhoods served by Furr
Furr serves several Houston neighborhoods in eastern Houston inside and outside the 610 Loop, including Clinton Park, Pleasantville, Songwood Homes, Oates Prairie and Northshore-area neighborhoods north of Market Street and west of the Greens Bayou. The school also serves the Houston ISD portion of Jacinto City (areas north of Market Street).
[edit] School uniforms
Furr requires school uniforms [1] for its students.
Uniforms consist of white polo or oxford shirts and khaki trousers, shorts, skirts, or jumpers.
The Texas Education Agency specified that the parents and/or guardians of students zoned to a school with uniforms may apply for a waiver to opt out of the uniform policy so their children do not have to wear the uniform [2]; parents must specify "bona fide" reasons, such as religious reasons or philosophical objections.
