The European Parliament election of 2007 took place in Bulgaria and Romania who elected their members of the European Parliament for the first time[1]. The combined population of the two countries is 29,598,914.

The two countries joined the European Union on January 1 2007, since then they have been represented by members elected by their respective national parliaments who acted as observers before their accession. The last Union-wide election took place in 2004, the next one, with Romania and Bulgaria, will take place in 2009.
