Esperanza Baur

Esperanza Baur (c. 1924Mexico City, Mexico, 11 March 1955) was a Mexican actress who was the second wife of American film actor John Wayne.

Born Esperanza Diaz Ceballos, nicknamed “Chata”, she appeared in a small number of Spanish language films, both in leading and supporting roles. She met Wayne in 1941 in in Mexico City and accompanied him to the set of the film The Quiet Man. At the time, he was still married to his first wife, Josephine Alicia Saenz.

Baur and Wayne were married on 17 January 1946, in California, USA. After a tumultuous marriage troubled by Baur's jealousy over the actor's attention to his children and Baur's affair with hotel heir Nicky Hilton, they separated in May 1952 and were divorced on 11 January 1954.

Esperanza Wayne died of a heart attack.
