Mun Jung-hyuk (Korean: 문정혁, Hanja: 文晸赫, born on February 16, 1979), also known as Eric, is a Korean entertainer, known mostly for his role as the lead rapper in the boy band Shinhwa, using the English name Eric. He has also branched out into drama acting, starting in 2003, under his birth name.[1] Mun is a Christian[2]

Growing up in California, United States with two older sisters and his parents, Mun is fluent in English, though he has been criticized by netizens for slurring his English and Korean rapping together. In California, Mun attended Sunny Hills High School district of Fullerton Joint Union High School in Orange County, California.[3] He has graduated from Dongguk University.[2]

Mun has been known to be romantically link to many popular celebrities in Korean. One of his best known relationship was with popular Korea actress Kim Hee Sun. The two began a relationship in 2002 and became a main target for tabloids as well as netizen. Their relationship gave them both heavy publicity and there were rumors of Mun planning to propose to Kim. However, the relationship lasted no more than a year with the couple breaking up in 2003. He was also rumored to have dated singer Kim EZ, member of the now defunct group Baby V.O.X.

In 2005, Mun dated Park Shi Yeon, a former Miss Korea 2000 contestant and a supporting actress of the drama, My Girl. However in 2007, the two split and went their own way. Following the break up of Mun and Park, rumors circulated that Mun and Park went their own ways because they had big troubles about their position, however, this has not been confirmed.

Mun's first task at rapping was in SM Entertainment's female group, S.E.S.'s song I'm Your Girl with fellow member, Lee Andy. Afterward, when SM Entertainment created another group, call Shinhwa, Mun soon join after Andy join in as well. With Shinhwa, Mun debuted on March 24, 1998, with him being the leader and main rapper of the boy band, along with Jun Jin and Andy being side rapper. He began writing some rap lyrics for some of Shinhwa's songs in the release of their 1st album. Aside from his own band's activities, he also appears in songs and music videos for other Korean singers like Lee Hyori's Anymotion as well as the popular R&B singer Lyn. Lately, with a majority of the Shinhwa members going solo, such as Lee Min Woo, Shin Hye Sung, Jun Jin, and Kim Dong Wan, Mun is the only member planning to not going solo, although reports have mention that Eric will be starting as a solo artist soon as well.[4] However this has not yet been confirmed. Mun along with his band mates Dongwan, Junjin, Minwoo and Andy will enlist for the military in 2008.[5]

Starring in the acclaimed drama The Phoenix, Mun garnered much attention because of his acting skill and won MBC Best New Actor Award. He later starred with the lead role in the successful drama Super Rookie, where he plays as a young man who happens to get a high-status job due to an error. He won MBC Best Actor Award in recognition of his acting ability.

His first film role was that of a killer in A Bittersweet Life, followed by the release of his first feature movie, June's Diary (released in December 2005), in which he is playing a detective. His TV drama Wolf (늑대) (co-staring Uhm Tae Woong and Han Ji-min) aired for only 3 episodes. Production was halted when Mun sustained serious injuries from a stunt gone wrong. He then filmed the drama SBS's Korea Secret Agency, a drama about secret agents with actors Han Ji-Min, Yoon Ji-Min, and Shin Seung-Woo. He also did a cameo appearance in the movie, Emergency Act 19 with his bandmates.

Mun's latest drama, Que Sera, Sera, which translates to Whatever Will Be, Will Be was less successful than his other dramas, with ratings low. Before it was aired, it gain much publicity due to the fact that he was suppose to play opposite Yoon Eun Hye, of the defunct band Baby V.O.X. and well known actress of Goong. But due to some sickness, Yoon's company took her off the drama, even if when she memorized the script already.
