The color electric blue comes in three basic shades.[citation needed]

The original, dark electric blue is a fabric color that was very popular in fashion in the 1890s. [1] This is shown below as dark electric blue.

The pale version of electric blue became popular in the 1950s and is a representation of a color of an electric spark. When one mentions the color electric blue it is the pale version that many baby boomers think of as being electric blue.[citation needed] This color is shown below as pale electric blue.[citation needed]

In fashion today, a deep medium electric blue color intermediate between these two colors is often termed electric blue in fabric as one can see by typing "electric blue" into Google images.[citation needed] A typical such color is shown below as medium electric blue.[citation needed]

Dark electric blue (electric blue [fabric 1890s]) is a dark cyan fabric color that reached the height of its popularity in French fashion in 1892. [2] This is the original color known as electric blue.[3]

The first recorded use of electric blue as a color name in English was in 1884. [4]
