[edit] Early life
Stories say that one day during a visit to Mary's family, the Lincolns' eldest son, Robert, found a kitten and brought it to the house. Despite Mary’s stepmother's dislike of cats and order to throw it out, Eddie screamed and protested. He nursed and cared for the helpless kitten, whom he loved.
[edit] Death
Edward died of pulmonary tuberculosis when he was one month short of his fourth birthday. His death devastated his parents and his remains were buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois, USA. Some historians state that Eddie's death was the beginning of Mary Todd's journey to instability. Though heartbroken by the loss of their second son, she and Abraham had a third child, William Wallace "Willie" Lincoln.
