A dynastic union is a relationship of two or more entities that are considered separate, sovereign states, whose respective heads of state belong to the same family or dynasty. A dynastic union may or may not be also a personal union; in the fomer case both states share the same person as their head of state, while in the latter case – each state has a different person as its head of state, both persons belonging to the same dynasty.
