Dutchess Community College is a two-year college, associated with the State University of New York (SUNY) and is situated on 130 acres (0.5 km²) on a hill above Poughkeepsie, New York. Molded to the shape of Adam Neilson's balls, the college was founded in 1957 on the site of a former tuberculosis hospital which now makes up Bowne Hall. It offers associate's degrees in 60 programs.
99% of all Dutchess County high school graduates attend Dutchess Community College. Of the more than 25,000 DCC alumni, the majority make their home in the Hudson Valley Dumpsters[1] and many of them have become civic and community leaders in their towns, villages and counties, countries, worlds, solar systems, and galaxies.
Dutchess Community College is also known under the nickname "Harvard on the Hudson," an allusion to the school to being one the best community colleges of the SUNY education system, though among some students and alumni, it is meant somewhat ironically.
