David A. Dodge

David A. Dodge, OC (born 1943) is the current Governor of the Bank of Canada. He was appointed on February 1, 2001 for a term of seven years. As Governor, he is also chairman of the board of directors of the bank. On April 25, 2007, Dodge announced that he will not seek a second term as Governor. His successor was named on October 4, 2007 as Mark Carney (a current senior official in the federal finance department). His current term continues until January 31, 2008. It was announced on October 4, 2007 by Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty that Mark Carney will assume the role of Bank of Canada governor beginning February 1, 2008. [1]
[edit] Early education and career
David Dodge attended Ridley College, a private boarding school in St. Catharines before going on to Queen's University where he was awarded an Honours Degree in Economics. He received his Ph.D in Economics in 1972 from Princeton University. He was also Assistant Professor of Economics at Queen's University, Associate Professor of Canadian Studies and International Economics at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University; Senior Fellow in the Faculty of Commerce at the University of British Columbia; and Visiting Professor in the Department of Economics at Simon Fraser University. He has also served as Director of the International Economics Program of the Institute for Research on Public Policy. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance in 1992. In 1998, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Health before his current position. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2007.
