[edit] Biography
[edit] Personal life
DuVall was born in Los Angeles, California, the only child of Rosemary (née Hatch) and Stephen DuVall. Her parents divorced when she was 12. After her mother remarried, DuVall dropped out of high school and moved into her own apartment.[1] She sought entertainment in movies and television programs, memorizing entire scenes. DuVall decided she wanted to be an actress, and returned to high school, this time the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts, while working to support herself.[1] She is not related to actors Robert Duvall or Shelley Duvall, who share their surnames with her.[2]
[edit] Career
Prior to making her appearance in Little Witches, she worked in a coffee shop. DuVall's first major role came in Robert Rodriguez's 1998 film The Faculty (1998), which featured other up-and-coming young actors such as Elijah Wood and Josh Hartnett. In 1999, DuVall appeared in such films as Girl, Interrupted, She's All That and But I'm a Cheerleader.
In 2001, DuVall appeared in See Jane Run, Ghosts of Mars, and Thirteen Conversations About One Thing. She also appeared in George Huang's 2001 television movie and the third in Cinemax's Creature Features, How to Make a Monster, when she is selected to play a young female intern Laura Wheeler, a girlfriend of abusive Jeremy (Danny Masterson), who becomes its noteworthy protagonist[3] and final girl, and perhaps a leading role opposite Steven Culp, along with Tyler Mane, Jason Marsden and Karim Prince. In addition, she has a guest role in The Fugitive.
In 2002, she appeared in The Laramie Project. She starred as Sofie in the HBO series Carnivàle from 2003-2005. In 2004, DuVall featured in the three-hour television remake/prequel movie Helter Skelter as former Charles Manson "Family" member Linda Kasabian, who became the star witness for the prosecution in the infamous 1969 Tate-LaBianca murder trial. In addition, she has a major role in the American horror movie remake The Grudge, with her friend Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Recently she has appeared on the hit NBC show Heroes. In addition, she has appeared in the recent film Ten Inch Hero. Her upcoming films include Anamorph and Passengers.
DuVall has directed a short film called It's Not Easy Being Green, starring Leisha Hailey, Carla Gallo and herself.[4]
