There are several Chicago schools, a name derived from programs and departments at the University of Chicago and not the city of Chicago itself. They refer to certain patterns of thinking about various academic issues, and are not intended as a means merely to reference the departments alone. Indeed, many members of these departments have historically dissented with these intellectual orientations.

The phrase Chicago school may also refer to the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
