Chapman codes are largely a superset of the ISO 3166-2:GB and BS 6879 codes identifying administrative divisions in the United Kingdom, Ireland and their surrounding islands, but covering historical divisions. They were created by Dr Colin Chapman, and are widely used in genealogy. They are not recognised by the Royal Mail.
