[edit] Synopsis

Priya (Mukerji) is a fashion designer; Raj (Khan) owns a small trucking company. They meet on the road, quarrel, and then fall for each other. Priya, who is already engaged, must decide whether she will marry her fiancé or leave him for Raj. Love triumphs, Raj and Priya marry -- and then struggle against adversity. They quarrel, separate, then reconcile.

The plot is somewhat of a departure from the usual movie romance that ends in a lavish wedding. This movie touches on the difficulties of marriage. However, few critics considered Chalte Chalte a daring or ground-breaking movie.[citation needed] It has much the same plotline as Raja Hindustani (1996),Saathiya (2002) and the English Movie Forget Paris (1995).

[edit] Response

Chalte Chalte was a moderate box office success mainly due to the draw of the film's lead pair. However it was given a cold shoulder by most critics as it was considered a very cliched film of it's genre.

[edit] Music

The music of the film has been conducted by the duo Jatin Lalit. The film contains seven songs:

Song Artist Other notes
Chalte Chalte Alka Yagnik & Abhijeet
Tauba Tumhare Ye Ishare Alka Yagnik & Abhijeet
Layi Ve Na Gaye Sukhwinder Singh
Ghum Shuda Sonu Nigam
Dagariya Chalo Alka Yagnik & Udit Narayan
Chalte Chalte - Instrumental
Suno Na Suno Na Abhijeet

[edit] Trivia

  • Rani Mukerji had a complete makeover for the role. Her new look was also widely noted.[1]
  • According to Shah Rukh, Rani Mukerji was asked to play the heroine but she was booked for other films and had to turn it down. Aishwarya Rai was signed for the role, but had to leave the set after some problems with her then boyfriend, star Salman Khan. He is said to have disrupted filming. The film then got delayed. Rani happened to be free at this point and agreed to take over the role and save the film.[2]
  • This was the third film produced by Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla's company, Dreamz Unlimited. Neither of their first two films (Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000) and Asoka (2001) did well at the box office. However, Chalte Chalte was a success.
