[edit] History

A settlement was founded here by the Roman consul Albinus Caecina, who descenend from an ancient Etruscan family. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the territory lived a long decline, which was stopped only when it was dried by Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany, favouring the birth of agriculture.

The modern Cecina was founded in 1852, but the town was totally destroyed during World War II.
