Category:Date of birth unknown

This category is for the discussion pages of articles about individuals whose precise year of birth is indicated, but the month and day are lost to history and never likely to be known.

Except for specific circumstances which should be elucidated within the pertinent biography, this category should not include individuals in Category:Living people, Category:Possibly living people, and historically recent individuals who are no longer alive, but whose month and day of birth are presumed to have been recorded and could be researched. All such individuals should be included in Category:Date of birth missing.

This category should also not be used for individuals whose complete vital statistics are presumed to be lost or nonexistent. Such circumstances require the use of Category:Year of birth unknown, with an appropriate explanatory note within the body of the article.

This category and Category:Date of birth missing, Category:Year of birth missing and Category:Year of birth unknown are unique and mutually exclusive.

When the year of birth for living individuals has been researched, but the month and day remain missing, please do not use Category:Date of birth missing before ascertaining the individual's full public prominence. The privacy of marginally-notable "non-public figures" must be respected; see WP:NPF and WP:BLP#Privacy of birthdays. Such people, even if their entire date of birth is available in a public record, should only have their year of birth given and be placed in Category:Living people, or be placed in Category:Year of birth missing (living people) if the year is missing.
