"Biology" is a song recorded by the British pop girlgroup Girls Aloud. Released on November 14, 2005 and being the second single released from their third studio album Chemistry, the single saw a return to the top five singles chart in the UK for Girls Aloud. It featured an all-new song "Nobody But You", and also managed to reach number two in the UK Download Chart and was a charttopper on the UK iTunes Music Store (their biggest download hit to date). "Biology" is built around the driving piano riff from The Animals' "Club-a-go-go".

[edit] Reception
"Biology" had increased popularity over the Christmas period, although it became confusing to the public as to whether it was the group's latest single. This was due to their next release, "See the Day", hitting the shops only three weeks later.
In September 2006, the single followed in the footsteps of "No Good Advice" and "Wake Me Up" to become the winner of the Popjustice £20 Music Prize - beating Muse's "Supermassive Black Hole" and the Sugababes' "Push the Button."
Peter Cashmore, writing for The Guardian, described "Biology" as "the best pop single of the last decade"[1]. It received some of the best critical reviews among all of their singles for its unique sounds and multi-song structure. As a result, Biology is often considered one of their "signature songs", alongside "Sound of the Underground", "Love Machine" and "Something Kinda Ooooh".
[edit] Cover art
The art cover for the "Biology" maxi CD single (pictured left) was inspired by UK punk band X-Ray Spex's album cover Germ Free Adolescents. Both covers show each member in a different pose, trapped inside a large vial. Both "Biology" and the album Germ Free Adolescents are akin in respect to their scientific references, both visually and terminologically.
[edit] Music video
The music video for "Biology" consisted only of group shots.
The video began with a curtain being drawn back to reveal the band members posed in black jazz dresses as Nadine sang perched upon a black grand piano.
In a sequence of disjointed choreography, the girls changed into frilly pink and purple dresses as the scene changed to a room with flowery wallpaper with digitised butterflies floating by. The band then changes into red and black outfits and black outfits as the scene changed twice more.
[edit] Variations
On the Chemistry Tour, the girls opened with this track. There was a big build up to the song. The lines: You can't mistake my biology and We're gonna cause a controversy were sung before the girls came on stage.
After Cheryl's solo in the first verse, there was a pause after she sang the word "closer". During the pause, the male dancers rose from the floor beside each girl. The pause also had the sound effect for a beating heart.
After the first verse of the song, there was a dance break, where the girls danced with respective dancer.
Near the end of the concert, there was a short reprise of the song.
