Beta Gamma Sigma
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beta Gamma Sigma or ΒΓΣ is an honor society for business students and scholars. Founded in 1913 at the University of Wisconsin, it has over 580,000 members, selected from 460 chapters in AACSB-accredited business schools. Founded as a US organization, it has in recent years added collegiate chapters in Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, The Netherlands and United Arab Emirates.
The aim of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and to foster personal and professional excellence among its inducted members. A major emphasis of the society is to foster ethical business leadership. Beta Gamma Sigma members reside in over 160 countries. Beta Gamma Sigma also has 18 alumni chapters located in major metropolitan areas in the U.S. and Hong Kong which provide educational and networking opportunities for members.
Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
While membership is highly selective, Beta Gamma Sigma is the largest alumni group in the world for graduates of business programs.
Juniors among the highest 10 percent of their class may be inducted in the last term or semester of the junior year. The "last term or semester of the junior year" does not necessarily mean the spring term if their last term occurs at another time of the year.
Members of the senior class may be inducted at any time during their senior year if their scholarship is sufficiently high to reasonably forecast their ranking in the upper tenth at graduation, or they may be inducted within one year after their graduation with their membership recorded as of the date of their graduation.
Election of Graduate Students: A new member inducted from among the masters students must rank in the upper 20 percent of those receiving the masters degree during the year.
The organization is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and the Federation of Business Honor Societies.
