The Berlin International Film Festival, also called the Berlinale is one of the world´s leading film festivals held in Berlin, Germany.[1] Founded in 1951, the festival is celebrated annually in February since 1978 and with more than 200.000 sold tickets and around 400.000 admissions it is considered the biggest publicly-attended film festival worldwide.[2] Since 2001 the director of the festival is Dieter Kosslick.
The European Film Market (EFM), a film trade fair integrated parallel to the Berlinale, is one of the most important events for the international film industry once a year.
An international jury places emphasis on representing films from all over the world. Around twenty films competing for the awards called the Golden and Silver Bears. The 58th Berlin International Film Festival will be held 07 to 17 February 2008.
