The Battle of North Borneo was fought in June-August, 1945 between Australian and Japanese forces in North Borneo (later known as Sabah) during World War II.
The Australian 24th Brigade made a series of landings in North Borneo, beginning on June 16 at Weston, on June 19 at Mempakul, and on June 23 at Sabang. Although the landings themselves were unopposed, the Australians encountered fierce resistance further north, beginning on June 27 at Beaufort. They were opposed by several understrength battalions from the Japanese Thirty-Seventh Army.
