Baptism with the Holy Spirit

According to the New Testament, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is an experience sent by Jesus Christ. As recorded in the Gospel of Luke, Jesus describes it as "the Promise of the Father", through which believers in Jesus Christ receive "power from on high" (Luke 24:49). According to the book of Acts, Jesus further referred to the baptism with the Holy Spirit as an experience through which his disciples would "receive power, after that the Holy Ghost[1] [was] come upon [them]" (Acts 1:8). Among various Charismatic groups, interpretations differ as to what the baptism with the Holy Spirit means to practical Christian experience.

[edit] Catholic view

According to the official teaching of the Catholic Church, when Catholics are confirmed they receive the "special Outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost" [2]. That is to say, the Holy Spirit is already given to the believer in baptism and confirmation. However, a growing community of "Charismatic Renewal Catholics" (numbering over 44 million in 2000[3]), believe that there is a further experience of Empowerment with the Holy Spirit. As stated by Rev. Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, "baptism in the Spirit is not a sacrament, but it is related to a sacrament...to the sacraments of Christian initiation. The baptism in the Spirit makes real and in a way renews Christian initiation"[4] Emphasis of the event is on the release of existing spiritual gifts already given to the individual through baptism and Confirmation.

[edit] Pentecostal/Charismatic view

In Christian Pentecostal theology, baptism with the Holy Spirit is a distinctive Christian experience, the Biblical basis for which is found in the description of Pentecost in Jerusalem in Acts 2:1-4. Pentecostals emphasize that to be 'baptized with the Holy Spirit' is to be immersed in the Holy Spirit, and the experience presupposes conversion. That is to say, it is both distinct from and subsequent to salvation, which is itself a definite work of the Holy Spirit. Support for this can be found in the book of Acts, most notably the disciples of John the Baptist who were possibly converts to Christianity but had not yet heard of the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:1-7). Another compelling argument is the encounter with Simon the Sorcerer (Acts 8:12-24). Charismatics are not as dogmatic, generally, as Pentecostals in the claim that the Holy Spirit baptism is distinctly separate from the experience of salvation. Some Charismatics believe that the Gift of the Holy Spirit is 'given to all Christians', occurring with the experience of salvation. Such Charismatics claim that the gifts of the Holy Spirit – that is, exercising spiritual power such as speaking in tongues or prophesying, are evidences of a release of the Holy Spirit's Power rather than the baptism itself with the Holy Spirit. At large, Charismatics and Pentecostals have very similar beliefs. Charismatics, however, focus more on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Charismatics and Pentecostals both point to Ephesians 5:18, where the Apostle Paul urges his audience to "be filled with the Spirit" using an imperative mood verb. Pentecostals see this gift (baptism in the Holy Spirit) as an experience following salvation. Whereas other churches have seen being filled with the Holy Spirit to require piety and grace, some Pentecostals and Charismatics have seen it as a requirement that all who are saved must have a Pentecostal experience. This belief has its roots in Luke 24:49, in which Jesus commands His followers to wait in Jerusalem until they "are endued with power from on high." After His followers have received this experience, they are to be His witnesses "in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8)

This belief has its roots in Luke 24:49, in which Jesus commands His followers to wait in Jerusalem until they "are clothed with power from on high" (NIV). After His followers have received this experience, they are to be His witnesses "in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8).

In contemporary theology, there is a divergence between the two main strains of Pentecostal believers, with some organized as Pentecostal and others as Charismatic or Second Wave churches. Both believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is spoken of by Jesus in Luke 11:13 and also Acts 1:5 and that it was the outpouring of the Holy Spirit prophesied in the Old Testament books of Ezekiel 36:27 and Joel 2:28-29. Both of these strains of Protestantism diverge from other churches in the essential nature of grace and what grace is granted without an individualized experience of the Holy Spirit.

Charismatics and Pentecostals differ from one another in the evidence they require for proof of baptism in the Holy Spirit. Charismatics will look for the "fruit of the spirit" spoken of in Galatians 5:22-25, and the Pentecostals will look for glossolalia (speaking in tongues), prophecy, and other "gifts of the spirit" described in 1 Corinthians 12. This was, according to Pentecostals, the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church. With it comes the endowment of power for life and service, the bestowing of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31). Not all Pentecostal churches would accept that all Christians receive the Holy Spirit at the time of their conversion as in the case of the Apostolic Assemblies of Christ, a Oneness denomination (not Trinitarian). But in the more traditional Evangelical point of view, and in non-Evangelical churches, the baptism in the Holy Spirit is equated with this reception. Others, even outside the Pentecostal church, consider the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a separate experience. Even among those who accept this, opinion is divided as to whether all those who receive the Holy Spirit baptism also receive the gift of tongues. Both Pentecostal and Charismatic churches regard the baptism of the Holy Spirit to be requisite for the apostolic and evangelical mission that they believe is the duty of all Christians. Other relevant Bible passages include [Acts 8:14-17, and Acts 2:1-13.

[edit] Reformed view

Reformed theology views the baptism with the Holy Spirit as a "once-only" event that occurred at Pentecost. In contrast to the Pentecostal/Charismatic view, Reformed Theology sees the baptism with the Holy Spirit not as an "empowering" or "gifting" experience received by individual believers, either at the time of salvation or subsequent to salvation, but rather as part of a "once-for-all," completed accomplishment for the church as a whole. The baptism with the Holy Spirit is seen as a "seal" of the Spirit of Christ given to the church as a whole, at one specific point in history. It is not an experience to be individually repeated among believers. At Pentecost, according to the Reformed view, the baptism with the Holy Spirit was received at once for all Christians then and future – a completed fulfillment of the "Promise of the Father" of Acts 1:4, when the Holy Spirit was "poured out on all flesh" (Acts 2:17) for all time.

[edit] Wesleyan view

John Wesley spoke of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and as an expression of this baptism practiced groanings which cannot be uttered. His personal secretary wrote an eyewitness account of this practice which is completely consistent with the modern practice of Tongues. However the bulk of his followers, the Methodists, have historically disagreed about how Wesley defined this baptism. While "mainstream" Methodists (such as The United Methodist Church and its precedent bodies) have tended to agree with most Christians in the belief that the Holy Spirit is conveyed in some manner to all people, and certainly all Christians (see Prevenient Grace), other Wesleyans have argued that Wesley was referring to Entire sanctification despite his own writings to the contrary, the belief that after one's sins are forgiven, a Christian can be actually cleansed of sinful corruption. These Wesleyans founded the Holiness movement and are today found in the Church of the Nazarene, the Salvation Army, and other denominations. See The Supernatural Occurrences of John Wesley for a chapter exploring Wesley's interpretation of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

[edit] Development of the term

The term "baptize with the Holy Spirit" is encountered in each of the four gospels in descriptions of John the Baptist's prophecies of the coming Messiah who would baptize with the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, {{bibleref2|Luke|3:16, John 1:33). Jesus is quoted using the phrase "baptized with the Holy Spirit" in Acts 1:5, where he commands his followers to wait in Jerusalem for this experience, which he also referred to as the "Promise of the Father" in Acts 1:4. In Acts 11:16, the Apostle Peter terms the experience of the household of Cornelius (described in Acts 10:44-46) as being "baptized with the Holy Spirit", declaring that the experience was "the same gift that [God] gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ" at Pentecost (see Acts 11:17 and compare Acts 2:1-4). Other terminology in the New Testament may refer as well to the baptism with the Holy Spirit: the language of filling (Acts 1:4 and Acts 9:17); other language of the Holy Spirit being poured out (Acts 2:17-18 (referring to Joel 2:28-29), Acts 2:33 and Acts 10:45); the language of receiving the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:15 and 17), the falling of the Holy Spirit on individuals (Acts 8:16 and Acts 10:44), and also descriptions of the Holy Spirit coming upon individuals (Acts 1:8 and Acts 19:6). Members of the Holiness churches have also referred to the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a "second blessing" or "second work of grace." This language and practice eventually evolved into the modern Pentecostal movement, and Pentecostals adapted the Holiness usage of the term as they understood it.

[edit] Baptism with the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues

Biblical scholars note the close association of Biblical references to "baptism in the Holy Spirit" with descriptions of "speaking in tongues." In the Acts of the Apostles, there are three specific references to individuals speaking in tongues: Acts 2:4, ;&version=KJV; Acts 10:46 and Acts 19:6. Each of these instances of tongues-speaking is immediately subsequent to or contemporary with an experience of being "baptized in the Holy Spirit." The experience in Acts 2:1-4, which included tongues-speaking (see Acts 2:4), may be connected with the prediction by Jesus in Acts 1:5 that the disciples would be "baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." This experience was referred to later in retrospect by Peter as well, as being "baptized with the Holy Spirit" (Acts 11:16).

The description of Cornelius' household receiving the Gospel from Peter and his companions in Acts 10:46, which included a reference to their "speaking in tongues," is later associated by Peter with the Pentecost experience of the disciples, relating that Cornelius and his friends and family were "baptized with the Holy Spirit" as the disciples had been at Pentecost (Acts 11:16) and Acts 19:6, which includes reference to individuals in Ephesus "speaking in tongues," although not specifically using the term "baptized with the Holy Spirit," states that the "Holy Spirit came upon them" when the Apostle Paul laid his hands upon them. Pentecostal tradition points to these passages to affirm what it believes to be adequate scriptural basis for their view that "speaking in tongues" is an initial evidence of the baptism with the Holy Spirit.

THE SPIRIT OF MAN, THE SPIRIT OFGOD "The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; ..." Proverbs 18:14

"For what man knoweth the things of a man, save (except) the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of GOD knoweth no man, but the Spirit of GOD." I Corinthians 2:11

"But ye shall receive power, after that the HOLY GHOST (theHOLY SPIRIT) is come upon you: ..." Acts 1:8 A man cannot do his worldly duties without his human spirit or human strength. In the same manner, without the HOLY SPIRIT or the strength of GOD, no man can survive as a godly man, a holy man, a righteous man, a spiritual man, a child of GOD or as a man belonging to heaven. Therefore, it is very essential for a man, to be delivered from his sins and be strengthened by the HOLY SPIRIT, the Spirit of GOD. The HOLY SPIRIT of the LORD GOD gives the holy power or the holy strength to live a holy life. When a man obtains the HOLY SPIRIT, he is filled with divine wisdom, divine conscience, divine intelligence, fear of GOD, divine counsel, divine love, and a clear mind.

"And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon HIM, the Spirit ofwisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, theSpirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD." Isaiah 11:2

Only the people who have obtained the HOLY SPIRIT, the Divine Spirit are the true children of GOD. They alone can call JESUS CHRIST 'ABBA, FATHER'. They are eligible to call JESUS 'LORD'.

""For as many as are led by the Spirit of GOD, they are the sons of GOD. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, ABBA, FATHER." Romans 8:14-15

"Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of GOD calleth JESUS accursed: and that no man can say that JESUS is the LORD, but by the HOLY GHOST (the HOLY SPIRIT)."I Corinthians 12:3

The glorious works of the Divine Spirit or the HOLY SPIRIT are compared in the Holy Scriptures to rain, fire, and wind. The worldly rain begins as a drizzle and slowly intensifies into a heavy and very heavy rain, then its intensity slowly decreases, and then the rain ceases. The HOLY SPIRIT of GOD works in the same manner. The glorious rain of the HOLY SPIRIT pours on the souls of people and quenches the thirst of the souls.

"In the last day, that great day of the feast, JESUS stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto ME, and drink. He that believeth on ME, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly (heart) shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake HE of the Spirit, which they that believe on HIM should receive: for the HOLY GHOST (the OLY SPIRIT) was not yet given; becausethat JESUS was not yet glorified.) " St. John 7:37-39

The HOLY SPIRIT gives man immense happiness, peace, health, strength, and consolation. Man needs worldly rain for his survival in the world. But the spiritual rain is more essential than the worldly rain. No man can survive as a spiritual man or a man of heaven, without this spiritual rain. It is very essential to pray for the rain ofthe HOLY SPIRIT, or spiritual rain.

"Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so theLORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain,to every one grass in the field." Zechariah 10:1

"Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your GOD: for HE hath given you the former rain moderately, and HE will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month." Joel 2:23

Again, man needs worldly wind or air for his survival in the world. But the spiritual wind is more essential than the worldly wind. Noone can survive as a spiritual man or a man of heaven, without this spiritual wind. The spiritual wind or air, the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD is the life-giving wind. It gives eternal life to us. So it is very essential to pray for the wind of the HOLY SPIRIT, or spiritual wind. The wind symbolizes the eternal life in the HOLY SPIRIT.

Furthermore, when the worldly wind blows on trees, they sway in the wind, and there is rustling and roaring of the wind. The HOLY SPIRIT of the LORD works in the same manner. When the HOLY SPIRIT works on holy people, their bodies sway like trees, which sway in the wind. When the holy people assemble and pray, there is glorious rustling sound and an orderly roaring of the HOLY SPIRIT. Itclearly reveals the work of the LORD. All things will be done decently and in order and in the proper manner. Let all things be done for edification.

"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting." Acts 2:1-2

"Let all things be done decently and in order." I Corinthians 14:40 "...Let all things be done unto edifying." I Corinthians 14:26

Again, the worldly fire purifies silver and gold by burning off its filth and dirt. It also burns stinking, garbage and rubbish into ashes. In the same manner, the fire of the HOLY SPIRIT purifies and sanctifies man by burning off all his filthy sins and abominations and dirt of sins. This act of the HOLY SPIRIT makes man holy. Everyone must be aware of this glorious and wonderful work of GOD by theHOLY SPIRIT, the Spirit of Burning or the Spirit of Fire.

"And there appeared unto them cloven (divided) tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled withthe HOLY GHOST (the HOLY SPIRIT), and began to speak withother tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Acts 2:3-4

"When the LORD shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem fromthe midst thereof by the Spirit of judgment, and by the Spirit of burning." Isaiah 4:4

Our LORD JESUS has said,

"I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; andhow am I straitened till it be accomplished!" St. Luke 12:49-50

'Baptism to be baptized with' refers to the LORD JESUS CHRIST's horrible death.

Without this glorious work of the HOLY SPIRIT or the power ofGOD, no man can obtain a sanctified soul, live a holy life, escape judgment and hell, and go to heaven. This is a great and never changing truth. It is a great truth that the LORD JESUS CHRIST came intothis world, suffered horribly, and died, to send the HOLY SPIRIT intothis world. It is essential for everyone to think of the great love and affection of this exceedingly glorious and good LORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST and to become HIS own children.

The HOLY SPIRIT has been given many names such as, the Divine Spirit, the Spirit of FATHER, the LORD's Spirit, the Spirit of CHRIST, the Spirit of GOD, the Spirit of HIM that raised up JESUS from the dead, the Spirit of Life, the Spirit of Adoption, the Spirit of HIS SON, the Spirit of Burning (Fire), the Spirit of Holiness, the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of Faith, the Comforter, the Fresh Oil (the NewOil), the Oil of Joy, the Power from on High, the River of Pleasure, Pure River of Water of Life and the River of Fire.

"Only the people who have obtained the HOLY SPIRIT, the Spirit of CHRIST are the true Christians .

"...If any man have not the Spirit of CHRIST, he is none of HIS." Romans 8:9

"Only those who have obtained the Spirit of Faith are the true believers.

"We having the same Spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak." II Corinthians 4:13

"The HOLY SPIRIT of the LORD removes the mean pleasures of sin and of the world and fills every man with divine pleasures, divine happiness, divine holiness, and strengthens him with divine power. The LORD blesses the man immensely with consolation and comfort. The LORD helps the man to live a holy life. The LORD gives him a new radiance of face through the HOLY SPIRIT, the Fresh Oil. This Oil makes his face shine.

"...I shall be anointed with fresh oil." Psalm 92:10 "...Oil to make his face to shine, ..." Psalm 104:15

The acts of mocking, blaspheming and talking ill of the HOLY SPIRIT is a great sin deserving terrible punishment from the LORD GOD. It is a sin deserving fierce wrath and punishment by GOD. It isa sin deserving the punishment of horrible judgment and hell.

"Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the HOLY GHOST (the HOLY SPIRIT) shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the SON OF MAN (the LORD JESUS CHRIST), it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the HOLY GHOST (the HOLY SPIRIT), it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."St. Matthew 12:31-32

The saints of GOD who have obtained the HOLY SPIRIT enjoy the happiness of speaking to GOD, the divine secrets, the wonderful works, and glories of the LORD in different kinds of languages not known to them. They highly magnify (praise) and exalt GOD with varieties of tongues. They enjoy great pleasure, comfort and consolation and they grow in godliness. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

"For they heard them speak with tongues (in different kinds of languages), and magnify GOD. ..."Acts 10:46

"Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of GOD." Acts 2:11

"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto GOD: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. He that speakethin an unknown tongue edifieth himself; ... Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: ..." I Corinthians 14:2, 4, 22

"For with stammering lips and another tongue will HE speak to this people." Isaiah 28:11

Being filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, and anointed with the HOLYSPIRIT, and sealed with the HOLY SPIRIT, and baptized with the HOLY SPIRIT and with Fire are one and the same spiritual blessing of theLORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST (Acts 9:17; II Corinthians 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13; St. Matthew 3:11; Acts 1:4-5).

First in Jerusalem, on the day of Pentecost, about 120 people received the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD. They were filled with the HOLY SPIRIT and began to speak the wonders of GOD in other tongues(other languages). They were baptized with the HOLY SPIRIT (Acts2:1-4).

In Samaria, Peter and John laid their hands on the believers, and they received the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD. They were baptized with the HOLY SPIRIT (Acts 8:14-17).

In Caesarea, while Peter was speaking the Word of GOD at Cornelius' house, the gift of the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD was poured out on the Gentiles. They spoke in other languages and praised GOD. They were also baptized with the HOLY SPIRIT (Acts 10:44-46; 11:15-18).

In Ephesus, Paul found some disciples of the LORD and asked them,

"...Have ye received (Did you receive) the HOLY GHOST (theHOLY SPIRIT) since (when) ye believed? ..." Acts 19:2

They answered that they had not even heard that there was aHOLY SPIRIT. When Paul laid his hands on them, the HOLY SPIRIT ofGOD came on them, and they spoke in other languages and prophesied. They were about twelve men in all (Acts 19:6-7).

The HOLY SPIRIT of GOD is of very great and manifold significance. They are explained below.

"The HOLY SPIRIT is the earnest of the Spirit or the earnest of our inheritance. Earnest means deposit or down payment, guaranteeing what is to come and what is to possess. Inheritance denotes salvation, viz., the final salvation, the redemption of body. The gift of theHOLY SPIRIT is viewed as an instalment or as part of the full and final salvation. The earnest of the Spirit or the earnest of our inheritance brings some right over the redemption of the body and the kingdom of heaven.

The HOLY SPIRIT is the seal for the day of redemption and for the redemption of the body. The seal is the HOLY SPIRIT. The sealer is the LORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST. HE seals HIS people with the HOLY SPIRIT of promise (the promised HOLY SPIRIT) for the redemption of the body and for the kingdom of heaven.

Seal denotes the full identification of ownership and protection provided by the owner and the full authority of the owner. Again, seal indicates genuineness; seal preserves safety and seal guarantees safe keeping.

"Now HE which stablisheth us with you in CHRIST, and hath anointed us, is GOD; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts." II Corinthians 1:21-22

"In Whom (HIM) ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word oftruth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that HOLY SPIRIT of promise, Whichis the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of HIS glory." Ephesians 1:13-14"

"And grieve not the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." Ephesians 4:30

The Spirit of GOD (the HOLY SPIRIT) who raised JESUS CHRIST from the dead should always live in us, because HE who raised JESUS CHRIST from the dead will also give life to our mortal bodies by HIS Spirit, who lives in us

" But if the Spirit of HIM that raised up JESUS from the dead dwell in you, HE that raised up CHRIST from the dead shall also quicken (give life to) your mortal bodies by HIS Spirit that dwelleth in you." Romans 8:11

"The HOLY SPIRIT of GOD gives us the great holy power of GOD; GOD strengthens us with power through HIS Spirit in our inner man(soul). The HOLY SPIRIT of the LORD gives great joy and happiness, and great longsuffering. The faith is growing more and more and the love of everyone towards each other is increasing by the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD."

"But ye shall receive power, after that the HOLY GHOST (the HOLY SPIRIT) is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto ME both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Acts 1:8

"That HE would grant you, according to the riches of HIS glory,to be strengthened with might by HIS Spirit in the inner man." Ephesians 3:16

"We are bound to thank GOD always for you, brethren, as it is meet (fitting), because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity (love) of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of GOD for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure." II Thessalonians 1:3-4

"Hence, all people should wait and pray for the salvation from sins first; and after getting salvation, they should wait and pray for the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD, by believing the promises of GOD. Even sinfulmen are kind to their children; they know how to give good gifts to their children; therefore, how much more will our heavenly FATHER give good gifts to those who ask HIM!"

"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto yourchildren: how much more shall your heavenly FATHER give the HOLY SPIRIT to them that ask HIM?" St. Luke 11:13 Everyone should live according to GOD in the Spirit and walk in the Spirit and no one should put out the Spirit's fire. To live in the Spirit and to walk in the Spirit, filling with the Spirit (Ephesians5:18), keeping the oneness in CHRIST (Romans 12:5), growing up into the Head, CHRIST (Ephesians 4:15), learning CHRIST (Ephesians4:20), living in the love of CHRIST (II Corinthians 5:14) and living in the light of CHRIST (St. John 8:12) are very essential.

"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." Galatians 5:25 "Quench not the Spirit." I Thessalonians 5:19 The HOLY SPIRIT of GOD reproves the world of sin, and of righ-teousness, and of judgment.

"And when HE is come, HE will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment." St. John 16:8 The HOLY SPIRIT of GOD helps us in our weaknesses. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD HIMSELF intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. The HOLY SPIRIT of GOD who searches our hearts knows the mind of theSpirit, because the Spirit of GOD intercedes for the saints according to the will of GOD. What an extremely loving GOD, our GOD is!

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makethintercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And HE that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because HE maketh intercession for the saints accordingto the will of GOD." Romans 8:26-27
