Baldwin Village, Los Angeles, California
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Baldwin Village, alternatively known as The Jungle is a notorious community in Los Angeles, infamous for gang-related violence. Baldwin Village is officially part of Crenshaw, and is home to a majority of the members in Black P. Stones gang that is affiliated with the Bloods, and is centered around Hillcrest Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
It is adjacent to the affluent African American neighborhood of Baldwin Hills, yet, it is one of the most notoriously violent places in Los Angeles, known for a strong tie to gangs. Alternatively known as "The Jungles", this appellation preceded its gang-related connotation once referring to the lush vegetation in the area. Recently, former NBA star Earvin "Magic" Johnson and others have discussed revitalization plans for the area.
