BYU Television (also known as BYU TV) is a cable/satellite television channel operated by Brigham Young University. BYU Television content originates from the University and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

It is sometimes confused with KBYU-TV, a PBS member station in Provo, Utah also owned by BYU, but the two stations do not share the same schedule. While KBYU-TV is a local channel for the Salt Lake area, BYU TV is broadcast nationwide via Dish Network and DirecTV, and worldwide at BYUTV.org.

BYU Television delivers programming to viewers across the globe through direct satellite broadcast services (for example, Dish and DirecTV), cable carriers, the Church satellite system, and Internet streaming.

In 2007, BYU Television launched a new channel, BYU Television International, which airs in Spanish and Portuguese.[citation needed]

The signal is currently available to more than 40 million cable and DTH (direct-to-home) satellite subscribers in the United States. BYU is available on cable in Utah, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Montana, California, Washington, Michigan, and Wyoming.

BYU Television is working to add additional cable carriers across the United States.[citation needed]

BYU can also be found on the Dish Network and DirecTV satellite services. BYU Television also streams both domestic and international content over the internet through the web site http://www.byu.tv, which is powered by Move Networks.

The intended audiences of BYU Television are alumni and friends of BYU, Church members, and others who are interested in the beliefs and values of the Church and its educational institutions.[citation needed]

[edit] Content

The content carried on BYU Television comes primarily from campuses of Brigham Young University (BYU-Provo, BYU-Idaho, and BYU-Hawaii) and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Additional content is provided by independent producers and Bonneville International (including KSL-TV).[citation needed]

The station's daily programming lineup includes:

  • BYU devotionals and forums
  • CES and Church firesides
  • General Conference broadcasts and rebroadcasts
  • BYU Education Week and Women’s Conferences
  • BYU sporting events
  • BYU musical performances
  • Music and the Spoken Word
  • Center Street and Family Times
  • BYU documentaries
  • BYU and CES faculty discussions and symposia
