The Assam University was established on 21 January 1994. Its campus is located in Silchar city which is at the heart of the barak valley in southern Assam, India. Within such a short frame of time, the institution has established its permanent campus with more than 24 teaching departments and 3 interdisciplinary centres, also the university has 8 schools on major disciplines. Being an affiliating university, the institution sustains a multidisciplinary approach to higher education.
