Area code 364 is a proposed area code to serve western Kentucky, including the cities of Madisonville, Hopkinsville, Henderson, Murray, and Paducah. It will be created by splitting Area code 270 along the counties through which the Pennyrile Parkway passes. Mandatory use of the 364 area code is scheduled to begin October 1, 2008, with a transitional period beginning April 1, 2008. On June 15, 2007, the Kentucky Public Service Commission revisited the split plan, revising the dates of this area code split, where permissive or transitional dialing would begin three months later than prevsiouly announced, now on July 1, 2008, and mandatory use of 364 would be on a future To Be Determined date. This later decision by the state regulatory agency was based on a study being done on further telephone number conservation measures.
