The Arab Federation of Iraq and Jordan was a short-lived country that was formed in 1958 from the union of Iraq and Jordan. Although the name implies a federal structure, it was de facto a confederation.

[edit] History

On February 14, 1958, King Faisal II of Iraq and his cousin, King Hussein of Jordan wanted the two Hashemite Kingdoms of Jordan and Iraq to unite. This led to the formation of the Arab Federation of Iraq and Jordan in which King Faisal II became the head of state.

When a coup deposed the Hashemites in Iraq on July 14, 1958, the confederation was doomed. The union was officially dissolved on August 2, 1958, after only six months.

[edit] Trivia

The Federation's ICAO aviation registration prefix was 4YB.
