[edit] Plot

It is the story of a woman-hating writer (Sanjeev Kumar) who finds a young woman (Jaya Bhaduri) thrown from a speeding car with her hands tied and her mouth gagged. He, his uncle, and his secretary (Asrani) take the unconscious girl home, and when she wakes up the next morning, she doesn't remember anything about her life and insists that she is the writer's wife! The uncle convinces the writer to humor the girl until she regains her memory. In the mean time, she shows him the crazy, fun part of life, and he calls her Anamika, which means "Girl without a Name." Just as he is falling in love, he also sees clues about her past that raises more questions than answers: Is she a married woman named Archana or is she a prostitute named Kanchan? Just as unexpectedly as she has come into his life, just as unexpectedly she leaves him. When he sees her again at a party, she refuses to recognize him. The movie's mystery deepens as the writer finds out who the woman is.

[edit] Remake

  • The film was later remade in Telugu as Kalpana (film)(1977) starring Jayachitra in the title role, and Murali Mohan as the serious writer who falls in love with her. However, most of the tunes for the Telugu songs were different from the songs in Hindi film, especially the memorable Telugu song "oka udayamlo."

[edit] Trivia

  • Lata Mangeshkar has said that "Bahon Mein Chale Aao" is one of her favorite songs.
