América Móvil (NYSEAMX, BMV: AMX, NASDAQAMOV) is the largest mobile network operator and the largest corporation in Latin America.

América Móvil is a publicly traded wireless communications company and provides services to over 130 million wireless subscribers in America, primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean as of March 2007. The company has been a venture of Carlos Slim Helú, the richest person in the world according to Mexican financial wealth with an estimated fortune of US$67.8 billion[1].

World-wide headquarters are located in Mexico City, Mexico. It was ranked number 1 Information Technology company in 2005 by the Business Week magazine [3]. On February 25, 2007, it became the biggest corporation in Latin America by market capitalization, surpassing giants like Petrobras.[2]

Its Mexican subsidiary, Telcel is the largest mobile operator in Mexico, commanding a market share in excess of 80 per cent. In the United States, it operates under the trademark TracFone, where they claim to be the leading national pre-paid wireless service.

It operates under the trademark Claro in Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru and Puerto Rico.

It operates under the trademark Comcel Colombia in Colombia, as Porta in Ecuador, and as CTI Móvil in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

In Jamaica, it has acquired 100% of the mobile operator Oceanic Digital, under the brandname MiPhone, AMX said in a statement, that it expected the purchase to be closed in the fourth quarter of this year. [4],


On 15 November 2005, America Movil signed an international pact with Vodafone to jointly deliver various international services.
