In a political sense, the term Afghān refers to the citizens of Afghanistan. While ethnologically the Pashtun people are referred to as Pashtuns[1][2], Pushtuns[3], Pakhtuns[4] or Pathans[5][6] , nonetheless, Persian-speakers use the term Afghān to designate the Pashtun people.[7] Additionally, Pashto, the language of the Pashtuns, is also known as Afghān language.[citation needed]
