Coordinates: Adoor is a bustling town situated in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala state, India. Famous people including Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Adoor Bhasi are natives of Adoor. The town is conveniently located midway between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam making mobility easier.

Adoor is an important town in Central Travancore. Prominent names like E. V. Krishna Pillai, Munshi Paramu pillai, Adoor Gopalakrishnan (film director and producer), Adoor Bhasi (film actor), hails from Adoor.
The main attraction of Adoor could be the very famous and old hindu temple Sree Parthasarathy Temple taking the centre stage in the town. This temple has got it's own historical importance and is one of the oldest in the town. There are many charitable trusts associated with this temple which conducts Annadaanam (a religious practice of serving food to all) and Samoohasadhya associated with Annual Festival. The Annual Festival (Utsavam) usually attracts thousands of people from the nearby region. (also associated with this. Gajamela—the elephant pageant on the concluding day—is the highlight of the 10-day annual festival at the Sree Parthasarathy Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Sree Krishna, known here in the name of Parthasarathy (Partha's charioteer; Partha (Arjuna) was one of the five Pandava princes, the heroes of the epic Mahabharata). Majestically caparisoned elephants take part in this spectacular procession.

Another important event is the famous Maramadi Malsaram (Bull Race) held at Anandapally. This is a spirited Annual event which attracts national and international visitors. The goal is to promote the spirit of Farmers. The event takes place right after the harvest.
Kannamcode Cathedral, that belongs to Malankara Orthodox Church is located here. More than 1000 families find solace in the Cathedral. It runs two Chapels, three Youth Movements and four Sunday Schools. The Cathedral is privileged by the resting in peace by most revered Philipose Ramban who translated The Holy Bible to the vernacular language Malayalam. Parumala Thirumeni had visited here and the bed he used during the visit is still kept here as a pious object.
St. Jude Shrine Maruthimude, 8 km away from Adoor, located on Kayamkulam Punalur Road, aka K. P. Road.
Mannadi is located 13 km from Adoor and 45 km from Kollam. Velu Thampi Dalawa, a Diwan of the erstwhile state of Travancore, met his tragic death here. It is the place where this great freedom fighter is said the have spent his last days. After leading a brief rebellion against the British, he is said to have ended his life rather than face humiliation at the hands of his opponents. There is a monument erected here as a memorial to his valour. The ancient Bhagawathy Temple here has some exquisite stone sculptures. The annual festival is held here in February or March. The Kerala Institute of Folklore and Folk Arts functions from here.
And one more Important temple is located near by Adoor, i e Thrichannamangalam Mahadeva Temple. It is an ancient temple and located in Peringnadu approx three km from the heart of the city kattukazhcha utsavam in the month of Kumbham (malayalam month) attract thousands of pilgrims.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Adoor had a population of 28,943. Males constitute 48% of the population and females 52%. Adoor has an average literacy rate of 85%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 49% of the males and 51% of females literate. 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
