[edit] History
The town dates from Roman times. Its name indicates that it was part of a territory known as the fat valley: a document of 1304 referring to the Habiate qui dicitur Grasso, a title which gradually became transformed into Abbiategrasso.
On April 30, 1524, the famed knight Pierre Terrail was fatally wounded by an arquebus ball in Abbiategrasso whilst defending the retreat of the French army from Italy.
