Aéropostale is an American clothing retailer oriented towards customers ages 11-18.[2] The brand sells athletically styled casual clothing in over 700 stores it owns and runs itself, typically at prices under $50. The retailer tends to locate itself in shopping malls and large marketing areas. Aéropostale sells teen fashion apparel including, shirts, jeans, outer and innerwear, accessories, bathing suits, etc. under the Aéropostale and Aéro names. The Aéropostale name originated from a 1920s French/Latin-American airmail firm, Compagnie Générale Aéropostale.
Its logo is a small butterfly usually in the left-hand corner for the women's line and a small, standing bulldog or a small A87 logo for the men's line on polos and dress shirts.

[edit] History
Aéropostale was established in 1987. The brand was introduced by Macy's and primarily sold young men's clothes. Since then, the company has evolved, introduced girls' clothes, and opened several hundred stores. Stores can be found around much of the United States. Starting in 2006, Aeropostale starting updating their old warehouse- or airplane hangar-themed stores for a new surfer style, known as "Lifestyle" stores. It features bamboo floors, walls and tables and dressing rooms that fog when a person enters. The new look will be in all Aero stores by 2009.[citation needed] It can be currently seen in the Palmdale (Antelope Valley), CA Store, Chula Vista (Otay Ranch), CA store, Chicago store, Syracuse, NY store, Wayne, NJ store, Louisville, KY store, and a Reno, NV store.
In 2007, the company began doing promotions with successful figures to increase brand awareness. The first promotion was selling the new Fall Out Boy album with a store-exclusive t-shirt. Other promotions include handing out a free beach towel with every fifty dollar purchase, and a free holiday bear with a purchase of over one hundred dollars, each promotion in its respective season. These holiday bears are also donated by Aeropostale stores to local charities in their respective communities.
