9 is an upcoming 2008 animated film. The film is directed by Shane Acker, produced by Tim Burton and stars the voices of Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, John C. Reilly, Christopher Plummer, and Martin Landau. The film is slated for a December 26, 2008 release. It is being animated in Luxembourg by Attitude Studio and will be released by Focus Features.

9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which the very legacy of humanity is threatened. A community of fully mobile rag dolls living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9 (Elijah Wood), displaying leadership qualities that may help them to survive. The conflicted but resilient community includes 1 (Christopher Plummer), a domineering war veteran; 2 (Martin Landau), an aged inventor; 5 (John C. Reilly), a stalwart mechanic; 6 (Crispin Glover), a visionary and artist; and 7 (Jennifer Connelly), a brave warrior.

9 was an a computer animated Academy Award-nominated short film directed by Shane Acker in 2005 and is the basis for the feature length film set to be released in December 2008. The film had a running of 11 minutes and was originally silent, with no voice work but there will be voice actors for the feature film. It was nominated on January 31, 2006 for the Academy Award for Animated Short Film.

The plot revolves around a "rag doll" character that fights a monster that has stolen the rest of his people's souls. The characters and sets are mostly comprised of every-day objects.
