This article is about the Volkswagen Group (VW AG) four wheel drive/all wheel drive trademark used on Volkswagen-branded cars with four wheel drive transmission and driveline systems. For information on Audi all wheel drive cars bearing the quattro® name, see Quattro (all wheel drive system).
4motion® is a registered trademark of Volkswagen AG, for all wheel drive (AWD) systems, used only on Volkswagen branded automobiles.
Volkswagen parent company Volkswagen AG has used different trademarks for their various brands of AWD vehicles. Previously, Volkswagen cars used the term syncro, but now, uses only 4motion. For their Audi branded cars, they use quattro®. Sister companies Škoda simply uses the nomenclature 4x4 after the model name, and SEAT merely uses 4. It is important to note that none of the above trademarks or nomenclatures define the type of AWD system.
