- 2 January - The Youth brigade assaults residents of Ruwa and Mabvuku
- 8 January - The Youth brigade seal off the towns of Bindura, Chinhoyi and Karoi, reportedly for a recruiting drive and to weed out members of the Movement for Democratic Change before the upcoming elections

- 11 February -The offices of The Daily News, Zimbabwe's main independent daily newspaper, is petrol bombed
- 15 February - Kenneth Walker reports on National Public Radio that the Zimbabwe government has sent troops into Matabeleland

- A Law is passed giving 2,900 farmers 45 days to wind up operations and another 45 days to leave their land and make way for black settlers

- The High Court under Judge Feargus Blackie sentences Patrick Chinamasa, the Justice Minister to 3 months in jail on contempt of court charges after the minister repeatedly ignored a court summons. Chinamasa ignores the ruling and police refuse to arrest him

- 8 August - The High Court rules against the state in the confiscation of Andrew Kockett's farm because it had not informed the National Merchant Bank, the mortgage holder
- The deadline of the Law, passed in May, forcing farmers to vacate their land is reached at midnight
- 16 August - Arrest of more than 300 white farmers who refused to vacate their land begins
- 29 August - A bomb explodes at the Voice of the People, an independent radio station in Harare

- 12 sugar cane farmers from the Chiredzi area are aressted for refusing to leave their farms
- 13 September - Feargus Blackie, a former High Court Judge is arrested
