- July - Opening of the Petronas petroleum and gas refinery in Kerteh, Terengganu
- October - Malaysian Airline System (MAS) changed its corporate identity and became known as Malaysia Airlines.
- 12 October - Jabatan Telekom was incorporated as Syarikat Telekom Malaysia Berhad (STMB).
