- February 29, the Constituent Assembly approves a constitutional draft which came into effect on March 23. The constitution, based on the principle of "parity" between the two wings of the country.
- March 23, Pakistan becomes the first Islamic republic in the world. (Republic Day in Pakistan)
- March 23, Iskander Mirza becomes the first President of Pakistan.
- September, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy becomes Prime Minister of Pakistan
