1856 Republican National Convention

The 1856 National Convention of the Republican Party of the United States opened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at Musical Fund Hall on June 17. It nominated General John C. Fremont of California for the office of the President and William L. Dayton of New Jersey for the office of Vice President and appointed a Republican National Committee.

The Convention's location and date were determined during an informal convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 22 and February 23.
