Saaransh (1984) was a Hindi film starring Anupam Kher, Rohini Hattangady and Soni Razdan. The film marked the screen debut of Anupam Kher, and won Kher and Hattangady the National Award for Best Actor and Actress respectively. It was India's official entry in the 1985 Academy Awards for Best Foreign language film. This movie was distributed by Rajshri

[edit] Plot summary

An elderly couple (Kher and Hattangady) living in Bombay in the 1980s receive a telephone call from the United States informing them that their young son, who was a student there, was killed in a senseless mugging incident. Thus begins their battle to come to terms with his death, as well as helping a young woman protect her life and the life of the fetus she carries from a corrupt politician's son. They are in love and the politician is against the marriage. The fight for the life of the young woman convinces Kher that life must go on and one cannot die for the dead.
