The Jakarta International Film Festival is the major film festival of Indonesia held every year in the capital, Jakarta, every December since 1998.

The eighth festival began on the December 8 2006 with Babel (2006 film), a film starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. It is an important date on the Cinema of Indonesia calendar.

The ninth Jakarta International Film Festival will be held from December 7 to 16, 2007, 170 films from 35 countries planned. The opening film will be Persepolis. The closing film will be Chants of the Lotus, an anthology of stories by four female Indonesian directors, the first time an Indonesian film has been selected to close the festival.[1]
